Money stress is one of the biggest relationship killers — but it doesn't have to be. Wealthra's new Household Sharing feature helps couples see the full picture of their finances together.

According to Relationships Australia (2024), financial disagreements are the second leading cause of relationship breakdown in Australia. But it doesn't have to be this way. Couples who manage money together — with visibility, shared goals, and clear boundaries — consistently report higher financial wellbeing and relationship satisfaction.

Why managing money together matters

Financial transparency leads to better outcomes. Research from the Australian Institute of Family Studies (2023) found that couples who budget together save 25% more than those who manage money separately. They also report higher relationship satisfaction and are more likely to achieve shared goals.

The challenge has always been combining visibility without sacrificing autonomy. You want to see the full picture, but you don't necessarily want every coffee purchase scrutinised.

How Wealthra makes it easy

Household Sharing works in four simple steps:

  1. Invite your partner — send an invite from Settings → Household
  2. Choose what to share — set each account as Household, Private, or Hidden
  3. Toggle views — switch between Personal and Household dashboards
  4. One subscription covers both — no per-seat pricing

Shared visibility, personal privacy

Every account can be set to one of three levels:

  • Household: Fully visible to both partners — transactions, balance, everything
  • Private: Balance included in household net worth, but transaction details hidden
  • Hidden: Completely invisible to the other partner

You can change the level any time. No approvals needed.

  3. When do we check in? — Set a regular cadence: weekly, fortnightly, or monthly money dates
  4. What's our emergency plan? — How many months of expenses should your buffer cover?
